Summary

"Theism and Humanism" by Arthur James Balfour is a philosophical exploration that originated as a series of lectures at the University of Glasgow, concerning the connection between believing in God and what it means to be human. It looks closely at how our ethical principles and appreciation for beauty are linked to theism. The book starts by discussing how these lectures try to connect big philosophical questions to the beliefs of everyday people. Balfour looks at how our inherent beliefs shape the way we view reality, morality, and beauty, using these ideas to build a thoughtful case for why theism is important for understanding human life.
