Summary

"Light Ahead for the Negro" by Edward A. Johnson is a journey through time that starts with a man deeply affected by his father’s abolitionist beliefs. Eager to educate freedmen in the South, he sets out to make a difference, but fate intervenes in the form of a disastrous airship accident. He awakens a century later, finding himself in a world transformed, yet still grappling with issues of race. Lost and disoriented, he connects with Irene Davis, a nurse dedicated to improving the lives of African Americans. Together, they explore the progress made and the lingering shadows of historical injustices, engaging in powerful conversations about race, equality, and the complex path forward, while his old identity fades in contrast to the new world he's struggling to understand.
