"A Lincoln Conscript" by Homer Greene is a historical fiction story that explores the difficult choices people faced during the American Civil War. The book, set in July of 1863, follows Bob Bannister, a young boy whose loyalty is tested when it becomes known that his father Rhett is against the war. Bob feels conflicted because, while he loves his father, the town looks down on him, and Bob feels left out. It becomes a struggle for Bob as he deals with his desire to be patriotic while also remaining loyal to his family.
