Summary

"Hero From Yesterday" by Randall Garrett is a science fiction story that clashes a peaceful future society with a brutal figure from the past. The story follows Domnas Karson and Murgon Darell, who, from a passive government, resurrect Jack from the 20th century to deal with Lugert, a dangerous criminal. Using time travel, Jack, a man of violence, confronts and defeats Lugert, showcasing the difference between eras of aggression and pacifism. Upon returning to his own timeline with payment in hand, Jack examines the strange respect given to him by the future people, understanding his own values were more aligned with the villain than the civilization he rescued.
