Summary

"Occasional Papers" by R. W. (Richard William) Church is a compilation of articles from The Guardian, The Times, and The Saturday Review (1846-1890) that focuses on the critical examination of Church matters alongside its correlation to state during a shifting period of England's timeline. Beginning with W.E. Gladstone’s writing on Royal Supremacy, it examines the jurisdiction of the Church of England while considering the historical context behind it. It also looks at the complicated relationship between the Crown and Church authority during the Reformation, and highlights the idea that the Church should recover its legislative powers while respecting the separation of powers in place. In these writings, themes of religious authority, constitutional law, and the trials faced by the Church are explored in depth.
