The Infidel; or, the Fall of Mexico. Vol. II.

"The Infidel; or, the Fall of Mexico. Vol. II." by Robert Montgomery Bird is an exciting story set during the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. Key figures like Hernán Cortés and Juan Lerma face hard choices about loyalty and face the clash between different cultures. This section of the story starts with a big gathering in Tezcuco, where Cortés gets his army ready to take over Tenochtitlan. Things get heated when Cortés tells everyone that someone has betrayed them, which makes his soldiers question who they can trust. Juan Lerma's story shows the chaos of war and betrayal, where he faces danger from friends and enemies. Their experiences bring up big ideas about what it means to be honorable, what people are willing to give up, and how the invasion changed life for the native people.

Robert Montgomery Bird was an American novelist, playwright, and physician.
