Summary

"The Divine Comedy by Dante, Illustrated, Hell, Volume 10" by Dante Alighieri is an epic poem from the 1300s that follows Dante’s trip through the afterlife, specifically focusing on Hell. This book shows the poet's idea of what happens to sinners and what is fair, with Dante leading the reader through the last parts of "Inferno," seeing different people suffering based on their sins on Earth. One such soul Dante comes across is Count Ugolino, who tells his sad story of betrayal, and the famous betrayers Judas, Brutus, and Cassius, doomed to be eaten forever by Lucifer. As Dante and his guide Virgil travel through the frozen land of Cocytus, they confront the worst parts of humanity, as well as how hopeless and despairing betrayal can be. Using strong descriptions and sad stories, this volume captures Dante's themes of sin, justice, and being saved.
