Summary

"The Witness" by Grace Livingston Hill is a story set in a university where a freshman named Stephen faces ridicule for his faith and virtue. The narrative follows Paul, a senior who is first an observer, as Stephen's unwavering goodness shines in contrast to the cruelty of his peers. This contrast comes to a head as a tragic fire exposes Stephen's heroism when bravely risks his own life to save others, causing Paul to re-think his own life and beliefs. The novel explores how friendship, courage, and sacrifice can change the trajectory of one's life, and how a tragic event can lead to redemption.
