Summary

"The American Baron: A Novel" by James De Mille is an adventure story set in the snowy Alps of the late 1800s. It opens with a group of travelers, mostly women guided by the experienced Dowager Lady Dalrymple, who bravely attempt a sled journey across the dangerous Simplon Pass toward Italy. The reader meets Mrs. Willoughby and her gentle sister, Minnie Fay, as the party begins their climb into the mountains, but their exciting journey quickly turns perilous when an avalanche suddenly strikes, trapping Minnie in the snow. The desperate scramble to rescue Minnie from the icy grip of the avalanche is only the beginning of a tale of bravery, budding romance, and the woven fates of these travelers as they face the unpredictable challenges of their alpine adventure.
