"Motor Matt's Engagement; or, On the Road with a Show" by Stanley R. Matthews, tells the tale of Motor Matt King, an expert flyer, and his cowboy buddy, Joe McGlory, as they face the ups and downs of life performing with the Big Consolidated Shows. Together, our heroes deal with all kinds of problems made by interesting characters like Haidee, a trapeze artist with a shady uncle, and the conniving Ben Ali, an elephant driver with a secret plan. The story starts with some funny chaos, like a wild elephant and a silly argument between a Dutch boy and a Chinese boy, drawing us into a world full of excitement, danger, and the complicated world of show business where Matt and Joe are prepping for a stunt in the air for a trapeze act. But as the performance gets closer, the safety of Haidee becomes a worry since she and her uncle are wrapped in a mysterious problem, setting the scene for one adventure after another.
