"In the Cause of Freedom" by Arthur W. Marchmont is a story set in Russian-occupied Poland during a time of political unrest. It follows Robert Anstruther, an Englishman, who gets caught up in a dangerous plot involving the Polish Freedom Fraternity and a mysterious woman, Volna Drakona. The story starts with Robert facing off against a police agent in Bratinsk, who suspects him of conspiracy. Things get more complicated when he meets Volna, who is linked to an important political leader, Count Peter Valdemar. Driven to help Volna and outsmart the authorities, Robert journeys through a landscape of risk, romance, and the fight for freedom.
