Summary

"The Seventy's Course in Theology, Third Year" by B. H. Roberts is a book crafted as part of a set of lessons designed to teach Mormon members about God, most likely in the early 1900s. The book is about the Doctrine of Deity, which continues from what was taught in the first two years, and it serves as a guide for understanding God's qualities from a Mormon point of view. The beginning of the book explains why it's important to learn about God's character for their belief. It explains how the lessons will be taught, including learning from scriptures and talking about them. Roberts says that knowing about tradition and revelation is important for understanding God, referencing important religious people as the base for what followers believe today. The first part wants to make it clear how important studying God is, getting the reader ready for deeper conversations later on.

About the Author

Brigham Henry Roberts was a historian, politician, and leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He edited the seven-volume History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and independently wrote the six-volume Comprehensive History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Roberts also wrote Studies of the Book of Mormon—published posthumously—which discussed the validity of the Book of Mormon as an ancient record. Roberts was denied a seat as a member of United States Congress because of his practice of polygamy.
