Summary

"Bee: The Princess of the Dwarfs" by Anatole France is a fantasy story from the turn of the century, starting with sadness as a Countess knows she will die when she finds a white rose. Before she passes, she asks the Duchess of Clarides to protect her son, George, and the Duchess agrees to raise George alongside her own daughter, Bee. The kids grow up together, becoming close like siblings. We see how much they care about each other as they play, setting the scene for trips to magical places with dwarfs and sylphs and foreshadowing tests that will look at who they are, how much love means, and what sacrifices they will make.

About the Author

Anatole France was a French poet, journalist, and novelist with several best-sellers. Ironic and skeptical, he was considered in his day the ideal French man of letters. He was a member of the Académie Française, and won the 1921 Nobel Prize in Literature "in recognition of his brilliant literary achievements, characterized as they are by a nobility of style, a profound human sympathy, grace, and a true Gallic temperament".
