Summary

"Memoir, Correspondence, and Miscellanies, From the Papers of Thomas Jefferson", edited by Thomas Jefferson Randolph, is a collection of letters and thoughts from Thomas Jefferson when he was the U.S. Minister to France, giving a firsthand look at the late 1700s when big changes were happening in France. The book kicks off with Jefferson worrying about talking to important people like John Jay, while also keeping an eye on the crazy politics in France in July 1789, with discussions of the problems, like Algerian pirates grabbing French ships and how the politics could change. Jefferson shares details about how Paris was in revolutionary mode, especially the rising anger between the people and the king, vividly showing the food problems and how angry the people were at the government failing. Through these letters, people can see Jefferson’s opinions on the important social and political changes, highlighting his involvement in revolutionary ideas at the time.
