Summary

"History of the Cathedral Church of Wells" by Edward A. Freeman is a journey through time, exploring the deep roots of Wells Cathedral and its central place in English history during Victorian times. It shows how the cathedral is deeply connected to everything that happened in Wells, far beyond just its beautiful building material, which stands apart from other cities shaped by commerce or war. The book looks at the start of the cathedral, its priests, and its place in the community, painting a picture of how it all fits into England's church history. Through careful examination, Freeman seeks a deeper understanding of why the Cathedral Church of Wells matters so much to both the church and the people. It's more than just dates and names; it's the story of a building that helped shape a whole community.
