Summary

"Allan's Wife" by H. Rider Haggard is a story set in the late 1800's about Allan Quatermain, a well-known adventurer and hunter in South Africa, shares the most significant memories of his life, especially his marriage and the pain of losing his wife. Quatermain starts by explaining his early life in England, including a memorable Christmas event with Stella Carson whom he knew as a child, and how it all led to his adventures in Africa, showing the beautiful yet dangerous land and his feelings of emptiness and memories of past adventures and difficulties with love that shaped his life.

About the Author

Sir Henry Rider Haggard was an English writer of adventure fiction romances set in exotic locations, predominantly Africa, and a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. He was also involved in land reform throughout the British Empire. His stories, situated at the lighter end of Victorian literature and including the eighteen Allan Quatermain stories beginning with King Solomon's Mines, continue to be popular and influential.
