Summary

"Rose in Bloom" by Louisa May Alcott is a late 19th-century novel that picks up Rose Campbell's story after her travels, showing her reentry into a changed home and her entrance into womanhood. Rose's journey focuses on her figuring out who she is, what roles women play in society, and what she personally wants to achieve, especially her connections with her cousins and her ambition to leave a positive mark on the world. The story kicks off with Rose's happy homecoming and reunion with her cousins, who have matured in her absence, their interactions filled with humor and heartfelt moments as Rose along with her friend, Phebe tries to fit in with the older cousins. She wants to be more than just a wife, so she wants to find her own path, which demonstrates how Rose wants to fight against what society expects from women.
