Summary

"Land of the Burnt Thigh" by Edith Eudora Kohl is a true story from the late 1930s about homesteaders in the tough Great American Desert. Two sisters, Ida Mary and the storyteller, try to make a life in this harsh place, learning about themselves and facing hard times along the way. At first, they're excited about homesteading, but when they get there, they see how hard life on the prairie really is. They live in a simple shack and feel scared and miss home a lot. But as they get used to things, they meet other settlers and become stronger, dealing with the difficulties of living in a beautiful but unforgiving land.
