Summary

"A Secret Service: Being Strange Tales of a Nihilist" by William Le Queux, is a story set during the era of Russian autocratic rule, focusing on the plight of Anton Prèhznev, a Jewish exile who joins the Nihilist movement after suffering immense personal loss. The story recounts his tragic past, including the injustices faced by his family at the hands of the Tzar's regime, which fueled his desire for revenge, and highlights the themes of political rebellion and the impact of autocratic power on the lives of those who resist. From the arrest of his father and the death of his mother, to the constant struggle of his sister Mascha, the novel shows the deep hardships people went through in oppressive Russian society.

About the Author

William Tufnell Le Queux was an Anglo-French journalist and writer. He was also a diplomat, a traveller, a flying buff who officiated at the first British air meeting at Doncaster in 1909, and a wireless pioneer who broadcast music from his own station long before radio was generally available; his claims regarding his own abilities and exploits, however, were usually exaggerated. His best-known works are the anti-French and anti-Russian invasion fantasy The Great War in England in 1897 (1894) and the anti-German invasion fantasy The Invasion of 1910 (1906), the latter becoming a bestseller.
