Summary

"Disqualified" by Charles L. Fontenay is a science fiction story that explores what happens when cosmic inspectors arrive at a seemingly perfect planet on a mission to evaluate whether this alien society is worthy of support. As Planetary Aid agent Tardo and his companion, Peo, investigate Saranta's agricultural society, they confront ethical dilemmas concerning civilization and class differences. Initially charmed by the planet's peaceful facade, Tardo uncovers underlying social inequalities, including the presence of an exploited underclass, and determines the society is built upon a framework of inequality, leading him to reject any assistance from the Galactic Council and refuse to condone injustice.
