Summary

"Transplanted" by Gertrude Franklin Horn Atherton is a late 19th-century historical novel centered around eleven-year-old Lee Tarleton as she confronts life's hurdles in post-Civil War California. After facing economic hardship and the death of her mother, she is placed into a boarding house where she discovers friendship and must navigate complex societal expectations. Thrust into adulthood, Lee's relationships with her mother’s friends and an English boy named Cecil test her personal ambitions, which ignites her search for identity and belonging in the thriving society of San Francisco during the 1880s.
