"The Parisians — Volume 12" by Edward Bulwer-Lytton is a historical fiction novel that explores the spirit and trials of Parisians during the Franco-Prussian War. It tells the story of people living in Paris while it endures a siege, dealing with war and hunger, while demonstrating humanity's range, from acts of fellowship to moral failures. The novel follows the lives of figures like Frederic Lemercier, a formerly wealthy man now confronting starvation after being hurt, and Victor de Mauleon, a leader facing declining morale. Themes of sacrifice and hope are also highlighted through the struggles of women, like Julie, and members of the priesthood.
