Summary

"At Large" by E. W. (Ernest William) Hornung is a tale set in the rugged Australian outback. It follows Edmonstone, a man driven by the dream of wealth, and his partner Flint, a more skeptical character, as they work as licensed hawkers. Their journey through the harsh landscape reveals the growing tension between them, fueled by Edmonstone's anxiety over their finances and Flint's pessimistic view of their prospects. The story quickly intensifies when the pair encounters a gang of masked bushrangers, who tie them up and threaten them, setting the stage for a dramatic struggle for survival and fortune.

About the Author

Ernest William Hornung was an English author and poet known for writing the A. J. Raffles series of stories about a gentleman thief in late 19th-century London. Hornung was educated at Uppingham School; as a result of poor health he left the school in December 1883 to travel to Sydney, where he stayed for two years. He drew on his Australian experiences as a background when he began writing, initially short stories and later novels.
