Summary

"Straight America: A Call to National Service" by Frances A. Kellor is a powerful reflection on early 20th-century American society that analyzes patriotism and citizenship. It urges Americans to become active in civic life, and focuses on themes of Americanism and the duties of citizenship. Early in the book, Kellor points out a national unrest, even with economic success, and argues that the U.S. needs more unity and readiness as global conflicts rise. It underlines problems from not caring about citizenship and the challenges that immigrants face when they try to fit in. This book asserts that America must take better care of new people joining the country, asking citizens to take part in creating a unified society.
