Summary

"The Flight of the Heron" by D. K. Broster is a historical novel that transports readers to 1745 Scotland, where themes of loyalty, superstition, and clan turmoil come alive amidst the Jacobite uprising. The heart of the story beats within Ewen Cameron, a brave young Highland chieftain, as he navigates alliances and rivalries while war clouds gather. It begins in the tranquil Scottish Highlands, where Ewen's swim in Loch na h-Iolaire is disrupted by warnings of a heron omen from his foster-brother, Lachlan, a sign Ewen defies in a show of his daring nature. As news spreads of the Prince's arrival, the lives of the characters become entangled in romance, betrayal, and the brutal choices demanded by political allegiance during a time of great change.
