Summary

"The Sword Maker" by Robert Barr is a historical fiction where a young prince named Roland finds himself in the center of Frankfort’s chaos, a city battling the heavy hand of nobles and struggling merchants. Amidst growing frustration and the threat of riots against a detached emperor and his corrupt officials, Roland dedicates himself to mastering the art of swordsmanship, and emerges as the symbol of needed change. As craftsmen meet in taverns to plan their escape from hard times, Roland returns after a mysterious absence, and unites with them with his vision to revitalize their failing city. Roland’s contact with the merchants reveals the ever-increasing troubles in Frankfort, starting a compelling story of uprising, friendship, and the pursuit of justified power.
