"A Charming Fellow, Volume I" by Frances Eleanor Trollope is a story set in the late 1800s, that follows the life of Algernon Errington, an energetic young man, and his mother, Mrs. Errington, who dreams of a brilliant future for him. She also thinks that a rich merchant's job offer is below Algernon. Mrs. Errington hopes that Algernon can impress Lord Seely, who is connected to her family, but this also creates problems. Through their conversations and home life, the book shows what the characters want and the social problems of the time.
