Summary

"Christopher Columbus and the New World of His Discovery — Volume 7" by Filson Young is a historical piece that retells the dramatic period of Columbus’s return to Hispaniola, focusing on the circumstances that led to his shocking arrest. It paints a picture of the tense atmosphere of the early colonies and the shifting political currents that shaped Columbus's destiny. The story kicks off with Francisco de Bobadilla's arrival in San Domingo in 1500, revealing the harsh realities of colonial life, including public executions, and Bobadilla's subsequent mission to investigate Columbus's leadership. The narrative reveals betrayal and hurt as Columbus and his brothers are arrested following accusations of misrule and mistreatment of colonists. Through letters, the opening hints at Columbus's enduring aspirations and deep grievances, setting the stage for his complex journey of redemption and the geopolitical entanglements of the New World.
