Summary

"The Old House, and Other Tales" by Fyodor Sologub is a collection of short stories that takes the reader on a journey through emotional landscapes, focusing on grief, memory, and the intricacies of human relationships during what seems to be the late 1800s. In "The Old House," readers are introduced to Natasha, living in an old manor with her mother and grandmother, all deeply affected by the loss of Borya. The narrative unfolds within a home filled with echoes of the past, where mundane daily routines intersect with the profound sorrow brought on by Borya's absence and Natasha's hopeful yet heartbreaking wait for his return. The story illustrates the powerful connection between family members, intertwining beauty, grief, the complexities of memory, and the reflective tone that permeates the book.
