Summary

"Andrew the Glad" by Maria Thompson Daviess is a story set in the early 1900s about a man named Andrew Sevier, who is known for being likable and having a way with words, and how he connects with those around him, especially David Kildare, Phoebe Donelson, and the major plus Mrs. Matilda. The book explores love, wanting something you can’t have, and dealing with tough feelings, suggesting Andrew has had a difficult past that still affects him. At the beginning, David Kildare and the major are talking about Andrew, who just got back from a hard time in Panama that hurt him both physically and emotionally. David is jealous because Phoebe likes Andrew, who is seen as a poetic person. The major thinks about Andrew's sad history, including trouble with gambling and losing. This sets the stage for a story full of deep feelings and relationship drama, showing how the characters are connected, but also how complicated their wants and feelings are. People reading this book will probably get caught up in a story that has funny parts, kindness, and a thoughtful look at what it means to be human.
