Summary

"State of the Union Addresses" by Benjamin Harrison is a collection of speeches from the late 1800s where the 23rd President laid out his vision for the country. These historical records offer a glimpse into the pressing issues and political climate of the time as Harrison discusses his thoughts on how the country should be run, relationships with other countries, and what should be done at home. From the very beginning, the addresses emphasize the need for government transparency, while also diving into foreign relations by describing the country's friendly relationships with other countries and the importance of international cooperation, as well as addressing concerns such as immigration and the need for economic reform by highlighting national debt and tariff laws. Through these addresses, Harrison sets a tone of hope, highlighting the importance of proactive government, strong diplomatic relationships, smart economic moves, and fairness for all Americans.
