Jonah

"Jonah" by Louis Stone is a story set in early 1900's Sydney, where a working-class community comes to life through the eyes of Jonah, a hunchback who hangs out with the Push. The book paints a picture of lively street scenes, filled with the everyday struggles and triumphs of its residents, as Jonah feels the push and pull of friendship, love, and family obligations. As the story kicks off one Saturday night, we find Jonah in a flurry of busy shops and meet people who shape his world, like his sweetheart Ada and her mom, Mrs. Yabsley. The arrival of Ada's baby forces Jonah to face who he is and what is expected of him, which makes him question where he belongs and what he's responsible for.
