Summary

"The Science of the Stars" by E. Walter Maunder is an exploration into the historical roots and progression of astronomy. It starts by highlighting the early stargazing efforts of humans from the beginning of time. It explains how ancient people looked at the sky, particularly the Sun and Moon motions. As time passed, these first looks drove them to ask deep questions about what they were seeing and how understanding the heavens could be helpful on Earth. This interest led to the important tracking of time, and the development of calendars to help understand the seasons. This book sets the stage to learn more of the rules and the story behind the stars and other things in the universe.

About the Author

Edward Walter Maunder was an English astronomer. His study of sunspots and the solar magnetic cycle led to his identification of the period from 1645 to 1715 that is now known as the Maunder Minimum.
