Summary

"A Question of Latitude" by Richard Harding Davis is a story set in the early 1900s that examines right and wrong, along with how different groups of people interact. It tells the tale of Everett, an eager journalist from Boston, who journeys to the Congo to reveal the terrible truths of King Leopold's rule. At first, Everett is driven by a strong desire to make things right, but his trip soon turns into a tough battle with his own beliefs as he faces a harsh and disorganized world. Along the way, he meets dishonest leaders and witnesses the awful reality of people being taken advantage of. As Everett deals with these challenges, he begins to doubt whether he can really make a difference and what it truly means to be human, especially with the added temptation presented by Madame Ducret.
