Summary

"Nietzsche and Art" by Anthony M. Ludovici is a thorough look at Friedrich Nietzsche's ideas about art, shared as a series of talks in the early 1900s. It looks closely at Nietzsche's idea of art, and identifies "Ruler Art" which it says comes from inner wealth and high society, and contrasts it with "democratic art," which is linked to being average. The book claims that current art is a mess because there's too much focus on individual expression and a rejection of traditional artistic values. It says modern society's messy art shows a deeper confusion, criticizes depending on realism and democratic ideas in art, and its goal is to make people think about art and question the meaning behind their artistic experiences.
