Summary

"Studies on Homer and the Homeric Age, Vol. 2 of 3" by W. E. Gladstone examines Homer's epic poems to understand the religion of ancient Greece. Gladstone explores the blend of religious belief and mythology in Homer's stories, focusing on how gods and supernatural events show the changing beliefs of the time. The book analyzes the divine characters in the Iliad and the Odyssey, highlighting inconsistencies in the pantheon. Gladstone suggests that Homer's depiction of the gods reflects a shift from original religious truths to human interpretations, even hinting at connections to older traditions like those in the Bible.
