Summary

"North, South and Over the Sea" by M. E. Francis is a collection of short fictional narratives, probably written in the early 1900s, that paints a picture of life in the English countryside and the relationships between its characters. The book starts with the story of John Dickinson, a young man from the city who goes to live with his uncle to be a farmer. He has a hard time with the work, but then he meets Sally, a carefree girl who is different from anyone he knows. At first their interactions are funny, but they both become fond of each other as John teaches Sally. Their friendship shows differences in society and how people felt about each other back then, especially as they explore feelings that contrast with what society expects of them.
