Summary

"India for Indians" by Chitta Ranjan Das is a compilation of persuasive political addresses from the early 1900s, highlighting India's struggle during colonial times. Centered around the ideal of self-rule, the book emphasizes the importance of cooperation across India's diverse communities, calling specifically for Hindu-Muslim unity. These speeches capture the rising sense of nationalism and yearning for democratic overhauls in the face of British control. Opening with Das addressing a large gathering in Calcutta, the collection immediately establishes its passionate tone. Das speaks out against the British practice of internment, decrying the unjust imprisonment of prominent Indian figures. By underscoring the shared need among Hindus and Muslims to fight colonial oppression, Das weaves historical context, fundamental legal ideas, and emotive arguments to unite Indians to rally for self-determination, establishing the text as a powerful call for unity and transformation during a critical era in Indian history.
