Summary

** "Sunshine and Snow" by Harold Bindloss is a coming-of-age story set in the early 1900s about a young boy, Charley Gordon, coming to terms with changing circumstances. Readers meet Charley, a student at Firdene School, at the winter paper-chase. Charley's life takes a different direction when his brother, Arthur, tells him that financial difficulties mean the end of their plans for military careers. After this, Charley is faced with making a new start and must move to Canada with his family. He experiences the harsh realities of prairie life, doing physical labor and working on a farm. The early chapters show Charley's change from a privileged schoolboy to a resilient young man who is learning what it means to be prepared for adversity and hard work. **
