Summary

"Vendetta" by Honoré de Balzac is a story set in France after Napoleon, which explores loyalty to family and revenge. It centers around Ginevra di Piombo, a young woman dealing with love and family duties, because of her father's anger with the Porta family. Her father Bartolomeo di Piombo and his family, who are refugees from Corsica, went fled to Paris because of what happened in the past. As Bartolomeo faces these problems and the desire for revenge, he wants his family to live peacefully. Ginevra then falls in love with Luigi Porta, the son of his enemies. She then must make a decision between her love and her family, making the story both loving and sad.

About the Author

Honoré de Balzac was a French novelist and playwright. The novel sequence La Comédie humaine, which presents a panorama of post-Napoleonic French life, is generally viewed as his magnum opus.
