Summary

"A Vendetta of the Hills" by Willis George Emerson is a story set in the untamed landscapes of mid-California, in the early 1900s. The narrative paints a vivid picture of rural life as it introduces us to Dick Willoughby, a cattle foreman, and Lieutenant Chester Munson, as they meet near Fort Tejon. Their conversation reveals a world of hidden gold, brought by the mysterious Guadalupe, an Indian woman. Further, it uncovers the historical roots of the Vendetta of the Hills and tells of the tragic fate of Rosetta, the bandit Don Manuel's dear sister. This sets the stage for a thrilling saga of romance, vendetta, and the search for justice against the backdrop of rivalry, hidden fortunes, and the conflicts between locals and the early settlers.
