Summary

"A Romany of the Snows, vol. 3" by Gilbert Parker is a story that follows characters first seen in "Pierre and His People," and shows how their lives are tangled together by the river that flows through their world. After some changes in their lives, the old man John Rupert and his granddaughter Judith make the Bridge House their home, and quickly the river becomes the focus of their community interactions. The novel shows how they deal with problems, and the dangers that arise working on or near the river when river-boss, Brydon, risks his life to save John Rupert from a deadly incident. The book explores how love, sacrifice, and social class play important roles in a rugged landscape of the Canadian wilderness that challenges and shapes the characters and their relationships with each other.
