Summary

"Struggling Upward, or Luke Larkin's Luck" by Horatio Alger Jr. is a story about a young boy named Luke Larkin, and is a tale set in the 1800s where a skating competition pits a hardworking boy against a wealthy rival, testing his values and resilience amidst class struggles and the pursuit of a better life. Luke, a determined young boy from a modest background in Groveton, faces challenges that test his integrity and resourcefulness, particularly in a heated contest against the privileged Randolph Duncan for a coveted Waterbury watch. After an event threatens to derail Luke's aspirations, will he prove that perseverance and morality can overcome socioeconomic barriers and lead to success?
