The Rider of Waroona

"The Rider of Waroona" by G. Firth Scott is a story set in the Australian outback about a rich, grumpy landowner named Crotchety Dudgeon. He's mean to women because he was hurt a long time ago by a woman named Kitty Lambton and her boyfriend, who both left him. This made him a bitter person who only cares about money and doesn't trust anyone, especially women. He even makes strict rules about women on his land. Things get even more complicated when Mrs. Nora Burke shows up to buy his property, which leads to more drama as Dudgeon's past catches up with him and stirs up trouble in the community.
