"Flora Lyndsay; or, Passages in an Eventful Life, Vol. I" by Susanna Moodie, follows Flora Lyndsay and her husband, Lieutenant Lyndsay, during the 1800's while living in England as they consider moving to Canada to secure better opportunities for their family. Through domestic scenes and difficult conversations, Flora clashes with her husband as he brings up prior conversations about emigration. While Flora desires to remain in her home, her husband's practical concerns around finances, family, love, and duty weigh heavily on her heart and mind. Despite her wanting to remain with her loved ones, she agrees to move away as she supports her husband's goal to secure a better life in Canada. This sets the landscape for Flora and the reader to contemplate all she will have to face as she prepares for their new journey.
