Summary

"A Love Crime" by Paul Bourget is a story set in late 19th-century Paris. It shows the tough choices people face when love gets complicated, focusing on Helen Chazel, her husband Alfred, and her secret love, Armand de Querne. Helen is stuck between her duty to her family and her strong feelings for Armand. The story begins in a comfortable room where Helen is unhappy because she is married to Alfred and secretly longs for Armand. When Armand appears, the attraction between him and Helen is obvious, so she admits her love for him but struggles with what it means for her role as a wife and mother. This creates a situation where big decisions have to be made, which leads to a "love crime" where Helen must decide about her heart and loyalty.
