Summary

"The Master of Aberfeldie, Volume 1 (of 3)" by James Grant, is a story set in the Scottish Highlands focusing on Allan Graham, the Master of Aberfeldie, and his complicated connection to his cousin, Olive Raymond. Allan's return from the military starts a chain of events exploring love, obligation, societal norms, and limits put on them through Olive’s father's will. When Allan comes home, a deer hunting trip with his father shows tension about Allan meeting Olive again, due to her father's will mandating they should marry. This causes stress and tension, as Olive resists being forced into a marriage she does not want. With Allan experiencing conflicting feelings towards his duty and Olive, these initial moments set the scene for a love story full of challenges and with the past influencing the present.
