"Rasselas, Prince of Abyssinia" by Samuel Johnson is a philosophical story set in the 1700s that tells of Prince Rasselas, son of the Abyssinian Emperor. The prince lives in a hidden, beautiful valley with his family. The valley is supposed to be perfect, and Rasselas should be happy, but instead he feels trapped and wants something more.
