Summary

"Hunted and Harried" by R. M. (Robert Michael) Ballantyne is a story set in 17th-century Scotland, a time of unrest. It tells the tale of young Will Wallace, a soldier wrestling with his sense of right and wrong amidst the violent actions against the Covenanters. The book kicks off with soldiers searching for a man connected to the rebels. Will becomes deeply troubled by the harsh treatment he sees and feels conflicted by his duty to the King. This builds to him protecting two young girls, solidifying his choice to abandon his position rather than continue his place inflicting pain and cruelty.

About the Author

Robert Michael Ballantyne was a Scottish author of juvenile fiction, who wrote more than a hundred books. He was also an accomplished artist: he exhibited some of his water-colours at the Royal Scottish Academy.
