Summary

"The Planet with No Nightmare" by Jim Harmon is a science fiction tale from the dawn of space exploration. Set on the peculiar planet Yancy-6, the story chronicles the experiences of a small exploration team grappling with the planet's bizarre ecology and their own growing unease. Surveyor Ekstrohm, along with Ryan and Nogol, initially find only unsettling mysteries, such as vanishing dead animals, which sows mistrust among them. As Ekstrohm discovers the inhabitants' talent for faking death, the crew is drawn into understanding the planet's unique ecosystem that includes strange flying whales and hints at immortality. The story explores the human response to the unknown through themes of existential pondering, fear, and seclusion, as Ekstrohm's discoveries lead him to the complicated choice of leaving his crewmates behind to share his story.
